Transport
Also called: moving a manufactured home, relocation
Moving a manufactured home over the road, typically requiring permits, escorts, and a licensed transporter.
Transporting a manufactured home means permits from every jurisdiction on the route, a licensed transporter, often escort vehicles, and sometimes utility crews to lift lines. Cost scales with distance, the number of sections, and route difficulty.
Moving is far more expensive and risky than most owners expect. Beyond transport itself there is disconnection, re-setup, new anchoring, new skirting, and possibly a new foundation, and older homes do not always survive the journey without damage. Many communities also will not accept a home over a certain age.
For most owners of an older home, selling in place is the better economics. Get firm quotes for transport, setup, and utility connection before assuming a move is viable.
